Campus Partner Spotlight: Samford University

In early April, OrgSync had the opportunity to visit the beautiful Samford University campus and take part in their annual Student Leadership Day. Samford joined the OrgSync family late last year and we are thrilled to work with their outstanding students and campus administrators. Two of these administrators include Renie Moss, Assistant Dean for Campus Life and Dr. Denny Bubrig, Director of Greek Life. Samford is home to 2,600 undergraduate students and over 115 student organizations and their OrgSync user base is rapidly growing. Student organization leaders were introduced to the OrgSync platform during Student Leadership Day. The newest Samford Bulldogs will have the opportunity to see OrgSync for the first time during new student orientation this summer. The Campus Life department oversees OrgSync on campus and has utilized our design services to create a brand new department website. This new website highlights everything related to Campus Life including Greek Life, Campus Rec., Community Serivce, and Student Leadership & Training where students can easily access SamfordSync.

Samford has been utilizing OrgSync in a variety of creative ways to revamp past campus practices. Campus Life staff can now easily access all student organization rosters. Online forms in the new paperless environment have allowed students to easily access and submit time-sensitive documents. Organizations are beginning to utilize the website builder tool to build an online presence. Take a look at this great example from Sigma Nu Fraternity. Also, with the devastating effects of the recent tornados in the Birmingham community, the Campus Life staff has found OrgSync‘s communication tools extremely useful in spreading the word about volunteer opportunities. Renie creates daily news posts titled Give. Learn. Pray. to alert students, faculty and staff about different ways that can make a positive impact in their community and help tornado victims. OrgSync is excited to work with such energetic and compassionate campus partners like Samford and we look forward to learning more from Samford as they creatively integrate OrgSync across other areas of campus! Best Practices: Orientation Programs It’s almost that time! Summer is approaching and new students will soon be arriving to campus for orientation sessions. Utilizing OrgSync for these programs allows for better staff and volunteer management, new student engagement, session evaluation, and increased adoption. Here are a few tips on how OrgSync can benefit your orientation programs:

Make Orientation Leaders applications available on OrgSync to attract quality student leaders. Create accounts for new students once they are admitted to educate them on orientation events through our Account Creator. Build a “Class of 2015” portal to create a sense of community among new students that they can be a part of throughout their college career. Educate new students about involvement opportunities through your campus’s Online Organization Directory. Place any contact information for local community or on-campus resources in the Contact Books as a guide for new students. Target communication to specific orientation groups by placing them in Committees or Families. Evaluate orientation programs through Post-Event Evaluations that students or parents can complete through OrgSync Mobile. Engage students as soon as they arrive to campus to increase adoption and involvement.

We hope you’ll be able to attend one of our Orientation Webinars this month to learn more. Back to Top

Did You Know about User Imports? OrgSync offers at no additional charge an option for campuses to pre-create or “front load” user accounts for students, faculty, staff and anyone else in the campus community. This allows them to bypass the registration process and ensures full adoption of OrgSync on your campus. Profile information for each user is provided by the campus and imported by OrgSync. Profile information for users may include basic contact information—name, email address, phone number, and mailing address; and also any custom profile information the campus would like to provide such as student ID number, residence hall, etc. Users may also be enrolled in one organization within the community as their accounts are created User account creation is recommended once for all current students, faculty and staff, and each semester for new students as they are accepted into the institution. It is suggested to work with the Admissions Office and/or the First Year Experience/Orientation Office to determine the optimal time to add new students.
