GameSalad is pleased to highlight the success of GameSalad users, Geek Mentor Studios on their game, Angry Anna. Geek Mentor Studios was founded in April 2011 by Mohammad Shah Nawaz and Mohd Faisal. Prior to forming Geek Mentor Studios, Mohammad Shah Nawaz worked as Lead Development on the Flash platform and Mohd Faisal served as a creative head at a top Indian animation institute. Geek Mentor Studios is a small development company consisting of 5 employees, 2 interns and 5 students. They have been using Gamesalad since December 2010 and have previously created 5 games with the tool (3 titles are still under development). The Geek Mentors Team Their game “Angry Anna” an embeddable HTML5 game that tackles the subject of government corruption in India has become a viral hit. Since launching one week ago, the game has been played more than 225,000 times. On the day of release, the game became the fifth largest trending topic on Twitter India, and was shared more than 14,000 times on Facebook. Unlike most games considered viral, Angry Anna was shared in playable form through HTML5 technology available through GameSalad Arcade which empowers aspiring and established game designers to easily develop and share sophisticated web and mobile games. Angry Anna draws on mobile game mega-hit Angry Birds for inspiration. In this politically-charged game-as-social-commentary, the birds of the original game have been replaced by anti-corruption activists Anna Hazare, Baba Ramdev and Kiran Bedi, while the pigs have been replaced with likenesses of politicians including P. Chidambaram, Pranab Mukherjee, Suresh Kalmadi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Geek Mentor Studios was able to use GameSalad to develop Angry Anna in just three short days and deliver a timely and powerful message to Anna Hazare supporters in India. Geek Mentor Studios shared with us their inspiration to make Angry Anna and why they believe that the future role of games can provide social commentary and spark change: “Enough protests and people rallies are going on in India, but there are millions of people who can’t get out of office long enough to lend their support to Anna. That’s why we thought to build a small game for those who can show their frustration by playing it. Now Angry Anna has become a huge hit amongst the people who protest corruption. The term Angry Anna is trending on Twitter and we are getting 99.9% positive responses.” Play the game right now, from GameSalad Arcade.
