iRumor of the Day: Sprint Getting iPhone 5
September 8 2011, 7:01pm
BeatWeek Magazine is reporting that Sprint may the latest carrier getting their hands on the iPhone 5. Of course, AT&T has had the iPhone from the beginning and Verizon picked up the phone this past February. The report is sourced to an anonymous tip from Austin, Texas, who claims to be installing Sprint CDMA 4G repeaters around (and actually even inside) an Apple store. The tipper is quoted as saying: “One thing I can tell you is that the electrical contractor that I work for is contracted to install Sprint ‘repeaters’ at The Domain. There is a Apple Store at The Domain. One of the ‘repeaters’ is to be installed INSIDE the Apple Store. There is to be a total of 5 ‘repeaters’ installed. The equipment is CDMA and 4G (Sprint)” The popular thought is that the iPhone 5 will see daylight sometime in October, and if this report turns out to be true, it would leave T-Mobile as the only one of the four major US carriers to be without the iPhone. The rumor also brings up some other very interesting thoughts. According to his quote, this means the iPhone will also be 4G capable, something Apple had expressed concern about it in the past. Some have even suggested that the new iPhone 5 will be a “dual-mode” phone, allowing you to switch between CDMA and GSM networks. All interesting thoughts for sure, and probably best taken with a grain of salt. What do you think? Would you jump to Sprint if it meant not giving up your iPhone? For developers, how much is your mouth watering at the thought of a whole new batch of fresh customers for your games? Source: BeatWeek Magazine
