Barnes & Noble expected to launch a new Nook tablet

Barnes & Noble sent out invitations on Monday inviting press to a “very special announcement” regarding the Nook. The event will take place on Monday November 7th at the Union Square Barnes & Noble location in New York.

The Nook product line underwent several upgrades in the spring. In April, the Nook Color released an update that enabled apps for web browsing, games, and email. These apps are based on Android’s mobile operating system. In May, Barnes & Noble released a black and white Nook with a touch screen ink display. The Nook is currently the number two e-reader behind the Amazon Kindle. Analysts speculate that the upcoming Nook announcement is an attempt to gain control of the e-reader market and compete directly with the newly announced Amazon Kindle Fire. Source: Apple Insider
