TuneUp - What's Next

After having TuneUp live for over a year, we have consistently seen that the big benefit of TuneUp is in the local use of the TuneUp gem. Our original hypothesis was that there was value in enabling a larger community to to collaborate around performance problems & solutions. With TuneUp, we found that most people wanted to do this work solo or share with people already in their social network (e.g. co-workers).

Because of this, and the cost to run the TuneUp service, we will be shutting down the TuneUp service by July 31st, 2009. While the current version of the TuneUp gem does not require the service to function, it does assume the service exists. As a result, we will be releasing a new gem that removes any use of the TuneUp service.

For anyone who uses the gem locally, no changes are required and there will be no impact.

The TuneUp gem is, and has been, open sourced & we continue to encourage people to enhance it.
