End-of-Life for Manage
August 12 2009, 4:01pm
To our Manage users, we want to notify you that as of August 25th, FiveRuns will end operations of the Manage product, with monitoring stopping on August 19th. As a result, we recommend you find an alternate monitoring solution (see our recommendation for Scout below) and uninstall the Manage client and Rails plugin as soon as possible.
How will this unfold?
Here is the time-line we will be following for the end-of-life for Manage:
August 12th – announce the end-of-life for Manage August 19th – the Manage service will tell each Manage client to stop monitoring. For each server you are monitoring with Manage, there is a Manage client. The Manage client contacts the Manage service approximately every five minutes to report metrics and receive commands. Starting on August 19th, all Manage clients will be receiving commands to “reset” themselves – which will cause the Manage client to stop monitoring the server and Rails applications. August 25th – the Manage service will be shut-down
What if I want to keep monitoring?
For those of you who still have monitoring needs, we recommend Scout, a flexible hosted monitoring service. Through August 18th, Scout is offering a 50% discount on the first monthly charge for existing FiveRuns customers only. Just enter the coupon code ‘fiveruns’ when signing up for Scout. For help on transitioning to Scout, see their blog post.
What should I do with my servers that have Manage installed?
We recommend that you uninstall the FiveRuns Manage client as soon as possible.
Manage can be uninstalled by running the provided uninstall script. For example, if Manage is installed in /usr/local/fiveruns/manage, then run:
/usr/local/fiveruns/manage/uninstall.sh
What if I don’t uninstall the Manage client?
We strongly recommend you uninstall the Manage client and the fiveruns_manage plugin. Because the plugin generates files that are consumed and cleaned up by the client, failure to remove both could result in your disks running out of free space.
What if I’ve paid ahead for a Manage subscription?
FiveRuns will refund you a pro-rated amount for any service you’ve paid for beyond shut-down.
