Gmail Organizer Update: Are two labels better than one?
May 24 2010, 4:19pm
Earlier this month, we made a change to the way Organizer labels messages in your Gmail account. Instead of just one "OtherInbox" label, we started using multiple OIB labels (similar to the way we organize email in Yahoo! Mail accounts).
So far, the majority of the feedback for this change has been very positive. Thank you to all everybody who reached out to us by email or on Get Satisfaction to let us know what you think.
However, we have heard from a number of users who enjoyed the ability to see all of their organized Gmail messages with a single click, as they could before the change. With this in mind, we are contemplating adding a second label to all organized messages: OIB.
Because of Gmail's unique email architecture, a single email is not limited to just one folder. One email can have multiple labels, so we could leverage this so you can have the best of both worlds.
For example, a newsletter from an online store would have two labels: OIB/Shopping (which exists today) and OIB. A notification from Facebook would have OIB/Social Networking and OIB.
This way, if you want to only see messages from your social networks, just click the OIB/Social Networking label. But, if you want to see everything that has been organized, the OIB label does the trick.
What do you think? Would you find having this additional OIB label useful? Feel free to leave a comment below or email us with your thoughts.
