Tip of the week: How to customize Organizer.

People often ask, “Can I customize Organizer so it moves more email out of my inbox?” We are happy to let you know that it is super simple! Here in Austin, Texas we host the South By Southwest Music, Film and Interactive Festivals (SXSW) every March. In fact, you might have seen us there! SXSW is a great example of an organization you want to stay in touch with online, but don’t want their emails in your Inbox. Say that you join their various email lists so you can stay up to date on the latest bands, films or interactive goodness that they might announce. You want to see those emails, but on your own terms. So how do you do it?
Organizer can move all of your SXSW notifications to a customized folder called “OIB/SXSW”. That way, they will be in one spot, automatically sorted and ready for you, at your convenience.
Just follow these two simple steps:
- Create an OIB Customized folder in your email account: For Gmail Organizer users, create a new label. Ex. “OIB SXSW”
For Yahoo! Mail Organizer users, add a new folder and name it “OIB SXSW”
- Find an email from SXSW and either move it to this new folder or apply the label. Viola!
Similar emails will automatically head straight for that new folder so keep an eye on the count and watch for updates in your daily digest. BONUS – Suppose you wanna follow a band, filmmaker or technologist affiliated with SXSW. Sign up for their email lists and train them to head to that same folder as well. You can do this with any online entity, group or organization! You’ve created a great catch-all for all things related to SXSW.
Creating custom categories for Organizer keeps your inbox sorted, straight and ready for important email from real people like your boyfriend, girlfriend, boss or whomever! We’d like to say you can do it with your eyes closed but internal testing revealed that it results in too many spelling and syntax errors.
Create a custom folder today! If you have any comments or questions, don’t hesitate to send us an email at help@otherinbox.com or ping us at @OtherInbox on Twitter, we’d especially love to hear about what kind of custom folders and labels YOU created to make your online life easier.
