Here at OtherInbox we constantly push the e-envelope and try to provide Organizer users the best experience in email management we can deliver. Our founder and CEO, Joshua Baer, recognizes this and encourages us all to be open and candid in what we can do to make OtherInbox not only a great company with a great product line but also, a great place to work! This brings us to our upcoming Fed-Ex day. Back in May we reported on our first Fed-Ex day but let’s run through it once more. Fed-Ex day was created by software company Atlassian and modeled after Google’s 20% time for software engineers. Basically, the team sets a day and works on whatever it is they want to work on. For one day, they shed their normal duties and work on a community selected and company focused problem or idea. The catch? The output must, like Fed-Ex, ship in ONE DAY! Next week, after the Thanksgiving Holiday, we will embark upon our 3rd Fed-Ex day! According to Altassian, Fed-Ex day has the following tenets-
Foster creativity. Software development takes smart people and it’s a shame to keep all that brain-power locked up. Scratch itches. Every developer has something that bugs them about the products, or something else they’d like to see them do. Ideation spike. Often, radical ideas don’t get traction because it’s hard to explain how they’d work or what benefit they’d provide. Have fun. Institutions like FedEx day make for a fun place to work.
We agree with these parameters, are up to the challenge and want to open the discussion to you… Become part of the team, if only for a day!
What do you think? What should the team work on AND deliver in one day? How can we make Organizer better? What does YOUR email need most of all? We have some ideas but we’d love to hear yours!Let us know in the comments below, email us at help@otherinbox.com, tweet us @otherinbox, or join us on Facebook and tell us all about your Fed-Ex day ideas. Your idea may possibly make the next revision. We’ll keep you posted with all the details here on the blog, facebook and more. In fact, the top 3 suggestions or comments will win a free OIB t-shirt just like the one Joshua Baer is most likely to be spotted in! Go!
