January 12 2011, 7:10pm

We are just a bit into 2011 and there is still a ton of talk about keeping your resolutions. (My personal favorite? I resolved to keep my resolutions… So meta!)Always very popular are things like losing weight and getting better organized. In fact, organizing your digital clutter, email list unsubscribing and more are big topics on the web as they are key components in clearing out the stuff you don’t need so you can start the new year with a lighter load.Last week, our own Joshua Baer got some air-time on our local Time Warner News affiliate, YNN,  talking about some ways to keep your digital business nice and tidy. Check it out here! I can’t embed the video so here is a peek behind the scenes-

I am here to testify, Josh wore a fresh OIB tee that day!Unsubscribe Folders for all!Speaking of unsubscribing from email lists, loyal Organizer users already know we have one of the safest and easiest ways to scratch your email from email lists in our super-simple Unsubscribe Folder. New users have been automatically getting the Unsubscribe Folder since last month and many users went ahead and created the folder themselves back when the feature was in beta. Now, we are happy to announce that all Organizer users will have the Unsubscribe Folder ready to go so you can start removing yourself from all those retail and holiday newsletters you signed up for last month!

Yup, the feature is now standard issue in Organizer. If you have not used it before, find it and read the embedded email to learn all about how it works. Get to know it. Put something in there. It’s super easy! (Hint- Put the email in the folder.)Why is it so awesome? Right now, we process around 50,000 of our users’ emails a week through the Unsubscribe Folder. Yep, 50K. That’s a lot of digital fluff! Fluff we are happy to take to the virtual shredder for you. Still not convinced?Let’s take a look at the traditional method of unsubscribing from an email distribution list.1- First, you have to find the “Unsubscribe” link in the footer of the email and click on it. No link? Look closely, they are usually very small and sometimes in a different font altogether. Time elapsed: 10 to 20 seconds.2- Next, you gotta verify on a landing page that you want to remove yourself by entering your email again. Sometimes you have to remember a password you no longer remember. Time elapsed: 10 to 15 seconds. 3- Then, you usually have to answer a question about why you are unsubscribing. Note- This is about the time I turn into the Incredible Hulk! Time elapsed: 5 to 10 seconds.4- Finally, you have to come back to your email client and start over. Don’t forget, now you likely have another confirmation email that asks if you unsubscribed on purpose! Yep, you gotta delete that one too. =( Time elapsed: 20 to 30 seconds. So, employing brain-cramping algebraic math (the calculator on my iphone) we conclude that it takes about a minute and fifteen seconds (75 seconds) to remove yourself from an email list! 75 secondsX’s 50,000 emails=’sThree million, seven hundred and fifty thousand (3,750,000) seconds!orSixty-two thousand, five hundred (62,500) minutes!or One thousand and forty-two (1042) hours!orForty-three (43) days! That’s almost a month and a half’s worth of time we save our users in one (1) week! And that number will continue to rise as more peeps catch on and put the folder to the test. I told you the Unsubscribe Folder was awesome!Stay tuned for more scientific tests where I further attempt to quantify the time and effort savings that the Organizer Unsubscribe Folder allows our users. What kind of tests should I run? Grow 43 days worth of beard? Attempt to learn something new every day? 43 days is a lot of time! What can you get done in 43 days?
