Campus Partner Spotlight: Georgetown Law
Over the past year, OrgSync has had the pleasure of working with Amy Garrison, Director of Student Activities at Georgetown Law. Amy has been instrumental in the success of OrgSync on her campus and a huge OrgSync cheerleader. Georgetown Law began their partnership with OrgSync in January 2010. The Law School has 2600 students, 1600 of whom are OrgSync users, and 100 student organizations. They have been creatively using OrgSync for several different functions, for example, Off Campus Housing’s roommate matching system. All students who have housing or who are looking for housing join an OrgSync portal and can post or search for availability. Additionally, for the first time ever, their student organization budgets are available online. In the past, this has been a paper process, but now every organization can view and track their accounts and balances electronically.
Not only are their budgets now paperless, but OrgSync has helped the Office of Student Activities transform to a completely paperless office. Online forms and a centralized student organization event calendar have helped the office save money and support sustainability initiatives. Amy and her team have appreciated the ability to pull reports and assessment data on their organizations and student involvement. The student leaders have reported improved communication and tracking within their organizations, and with continued use over time, OrgSync will be very helpful for officer turnover since law students’ tenure is only three years. Georgetown Law recently added additional portals to allow for more growth across the campus community. Later this month, the OrgSync team will be visiting campus to meet with some of the various departments on campus to further integrate OrgSync into the campus community. OrgSync is very fortunate to work with such a great campus partner! Stay tuned for more creative uses of OrgSync from Georgetown Law as we continue to work with more departments, as well as many of our other campus partners! Best Practices: Officer Transitions For many of your student organizations, officer elections and transitions are happening this spring. We have compiled a list of things to be mindful of and to communicate to your organization leaders during this time, as well as some ideas from your fellow campus partners:
Be sure your organization leaders know how to administer elections using OrgSync! Hold joint training sessions with outgoing and incoming officers. Make sure the outgoing officers grant the incoming officers the appropriate access levels (i.e. make the new president an administrator). Provide a checklist to outgoing officers of tasks to complete before leaving their post. Give incoming officers a to-do list for the summer in preparation for fall recruitment and activities. Provide a list of important dates to incoming officers (training opportunities, registration deadlines, organization fairs, etc.).
Did You Know about Card Swipe? OrgSync now has a way to track event attendance with the simple swipe of a Student’s ID card! Our card swipe technology integrates with the OrgSync events module to track attendance and assist in assigning timesheet hours for each student that has swiped in at the event. Our platform is compatible with almost every magnetic card reader and works in both wired and wireless environments. Card readers are nearly identical in functionality; they identify the information on a student’s ID card, record that information to a file, and save it for the administrator to upload to an OrgSync event to credit attendees for participation. For more information on how to integrate the new Card Swiping add-on feature, please contact your Campus Consultant.
