Future fail!- Rocket powered mail and other things that never came to be….

We at OIB have major issues with how we were mislead as children. Who lied to us you ask? Sci-fi and popular culture of course!! They collectively lead us all to believe we would all have rocket packs, lunar vacations, meals in a pill and synthetic parasitic weight management robots …. like yesterday! Socialcast cracked us up yesterday with this great infographic on Failed Tech Predictions and some that came close!

Aside from pointing out that we were set to have nuclear vacuum cleaners and an erroneous prediction that e-commerce would flop, we were tickled to learn all about “Rocket Mail”.

No, no, not RocketMail, the free webmail service that would eventually be purchased by Yahoo! and transformed into Yahoo! Mail, but actual freakin’ rockets being used to deliver mail! Well, as we all learned, we don’t need rockets to take mail across the globe because we have email. Fast. Free and extremely efficient….

EMAIL. The same medium Bill Gates said would be spam-free by 2006…. LOL! We saw how that went!
